CARRIE HINNERS
Hometown: Maple Grove, Minnesota
Background: I was a pole vaulter throughout high school and college. After my last collegiate track meet, I thought “what next?” and decided to run a marathon, assuming it would be a one-and-done bucket list type of thing. I had zero aerobic base and no idea what I was doing, but I enjoyed the process of working towards a big goal. Less than a year later, I completed my first marathon and wondered if I could run another one faster. I caught the bug and here we are 16+ marathons later. I did get faster…by over an hour!
Racing competitively since: 2013, when I joined Twin Cities Track Club (while living in Minneapolis, MN). Took a break from competitive racing from 2018-2021 (injuries, pandemic, cross-country move), then got back into competitive racing again in 2022 when I joined PRT.
PRs:
Mile: 5:27 (TC 1 Mile, 2017)
5k: 18:25 (Brian Kraft, 2017)
10k: 38:38 (Get In Gear, 2017)
Half Marathon: 1:25:18 (Monster Dash, 2015)
Marathon: 3:00:13 (Twin Cities Marathon, 2014)
Fun questions:
Favorite race: Grandma’s Marathon
Favorite workout: Mile repeats
Words to live by: High tides lift all ships
Why I choose to run for PRT: The camaraderie and the community. Oftentimes I forget I’m training because I’m having so much fun!
What I like to do besides running: Entertaining my corgi puppy, Ruby (walks, going to dog beaches, playing at the park, etc.), cooking/baking, and all things trivia/word games (team trivia nights (Go Panda Racing Team!), crossword puzzles, Wordle, watching Jeopardy).
