GREG WAGNER

Hometown: My father was in the Air Force, so we lived in multiple places. I was born in Cincinnati, but went to 5 different elementary schools throughout the Northeast and Midwest. I’ve lived in California most of my life since high school.

Background: I have run competitively through high School, college, post-college, masters.

Racing Competitively Since: I started running XC and track in high school by default. I was too small (5 feet tall and 115lbs) to compete in any other sport.

PRs:

800: 1:56 (track, high school)

Mile:  4:20 (track, high school)

Half Marathon: 1:14

Marathon: 2:40

Highlights: National USATF XC teams – 2nd place, Bend, OR 2017; two 4th places, Seattle, WA and Charlotte, NC

The Fun Questions:

Favorite Race: Any trail race in Marin County

Favorite Workout: 4 x 6 minutes on grass or trail, 800 meter repeats on the track

Words to Live By: “The clearest way into the Universe is through a forest wilderness.” “The world’s big and I want to have a good look at it before it gets dark”  - John Muir

Why I Choose to Run for PRT: I enjoy the PRT team because they’re great running companions and a group of interesting  people who are fun to socialize with. I’m glad to reunite with my past teammates Bruce Boettner, Adam Weiner, Patrick Lanoiselee and to join Scott McEntee, Kevin Zimmer, Jeff Creighton, Matt Sheremeta, and Mark Sosnowski. We all went to the 2017 National XC meet In Lexington KY.

Favorite PRT Memory: Running the National XC meet in Lexington, KY in December 2017 in blowing snow and 19 degree wind chill. We were so cold at the finish that we couldn’t talk because our faces were frozen.

What I Like to Do Besides Running: Photography and backpacking. There is a mile-long plateau called Table Mountain just south of Milestone Mountain on the border of Sequoia and Kings Canyon NP. It is about 13,000’ elevation. To get there is almost exactly a marathon (26.1 miles) of strenuous hiking. I would like to get a group to hike to Table Mountain and run a timed mile, just because.
