KRISTIN SCHLEICHER

Background: I started running cross country and track in middle school. The 24+ years since have been filled with great running years and years during which I was injured and barely ran. I still love the sport with all the enthusiasm of a day one.

Racing Competitively Since: 1995, a full eight years before the first Garmin GPS running watch was released.

PRs:

5K: 17:35 (Carlsbad 5000, 2014)

10000 m: 36:55 (Mt. SAC Relays (track), 2013)

Highlights:  Avenue of the Giants Marathon 2014 - First Place Overall Female

The Fun Questions:

Favorite Race: California International Marathon, Carlsbad 5000, honestly any time I get to race is great

Favorite Workout: 5-6 x mile on the track

Words to Live By: "If you're going through hell, keep going."  -Winston Churchill (maybe)

Why I Choose to Run for PRT: In 2010 I moved across the country to San Diego not knowing anyone. I cold-emailed the Red Hot Racers (precursor to PRT) because they had a website, seemed nice, and were mostly a little bit faster than me. That turned out to be one of the best decisions of my life, as I ended up not only with supportive, motivating, and fun teammates and friends but also eventually with a bunch of PRs. Now I update the website and try to pay it forward.

Favorite PRT Memory: The epic race, after party, and after-after party at USATF Club XC Nationals 2013 #inbend

What I Like to Do Besides Running: I'm a chemist for work, and I also enjoy swimming, trivia nights, indie rock shows, and travel (especially national parks).
