Fresh off their dominant Dirt Dog XC season, the Men’s Masters 50+ team travelled to Lexington, Kentucky to compete in the USATF National Club Cross Country Championships.
Leaving 80 degree weather behind in San Diego, the team stepped off the plane into sub-freezing conditions at Lexington. Those braving the cold were Adam Weiner, Jeff Creighton, Kevin Zimmer, Marc Sosnowski, Matt Sheremeta, and Robert Verhees.
At the start of the men’s 10K race, the temperature was 22 degrees factoring in the wind chill. At the gun, Matt took off like a rocket with Kevin and Robert close on his heels. They kept in sight of each other all the way through the race with Kevin pulling ahead of Matt near the finish. Whether PRT would podium was going to be decided by Adam, Jeff and Marc. All three put in strong performances, so we thought we had a strong chance.
Everyone needed to warm up (i.e. off to the rental cars and turn the heaters on) while waiting for the official results. The good news arrived shortly thereafter that PRT took a solid third place in the Men’s Masters 50+ division.
In team scoring, Kevin placed 8th, Matt in 11th, Robert in 12th, Adam in 31st, Jeff in 49th and Marc in 57th. Impressively, in the 55-59 division age grouping, Adam finished 7th.
With their outstanding performance at Lexington, the PRT Men’s Masters 50+ team are now on the national radar!
